Welcome to The LA Waiting Web !!! This website exists currently as a beta form of a future website which aims to congregate both my own reflections, observations, and critiques of hospitals and medical waiting rooms across Los Angeles and those of the greater LA community. My belief is as such: Hospitals and their waiting rooms provide a unique curated experience which we all experience in different ways. Filled, perhaps, with chairs, potted plants, art, and various operational detritus -- the waiting room is one such space which is curated to be experienced but not designed by diverse members of the public. I currently live in Santa Cruz, CA but I'm from LA and I will be returning home to study nursing soon. As an aspiring nurse, I'm interested in not just providing quality care to the people I meet, but to empower and enter community with the members of my community. In my time in Santa Cruz, I've experienced myriad medical concerns and appointments and I've been in a lot of waiting rooms. As I work to complete my prerequisite courses and finish the visual studies courses I'm taking in Santa Cruz, I want to design a project which provides me the opprtunity to learn and grow as a graduate of visual studies and flex my nursing muscles in a capacity which may passively accrue useful data for the people of the place I call home.

That is where you come in. Drawing on the lessons I've inherited from my education in visual studies and my desire to shape the hospital space for the better as a nurse, I'm asking those folks in and outside of LA to contribute their experiences with hospital waiting rooms so that I may build an online community archive which highlights the current state of LA's hospital waiting rooms. My belief is that in charting these experiences, people from various LA communities may have a curated pool of data with which to guide discussions about changing hospitals as an institution in our city.

This website(in beta) will document these experiences. For my part, I will also be keeping my own blog and gallery in which I will detail my experiences and curate art and design proposals I like to develop my own sort of "waiting room imaginary?" It's still a work in progress as I learn HTML/CSS, but my goal in this proposal is to explain what matters to me and why. Thank you so much for reading, submitting, and sharing!!! -- best, day
